The mistrial in the complicated case comes after unusually long deliberations. A juror was replaced in December when a court employee reported then that he overheard him discussing the case with a fellow passenger on a commuter train. While jurors already had spent 17 days in deliberations, they were required to begin anew with the alternate juror.

After 35 additional days in the jury room, one juror sent a note…the note expressed “frustrations[.]“
