Hospitals face fight for tax-exempt status | Contra Costa Times | 11.1.07

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss draft proposals prepared by Grassley’s staff that would impose stricter standards on nonprofit hospitals. Grassley said that he has not made up his mind about whether such reforms are needed and wanted to hear from those involved in the issue.
The Times analysis also showed that statewide, in three of the past five years, the average for-profit hospital provided higher levels of charity care than the average nonprofit institution.
